I've done a ton of fishing, and most of the guys I fish with carry the typical singular or occasional two piece fishing rod. A join of those guys, however, carry a small private with them when they head out of town on trips that aren't necessarily "fishing trips". Something they can tuck away and pull out when the chance arises. These guys know that an chance might gift itself at any moment. Having a telescopic fishing rod on hand when that occasion arrives can for real mean the difference between fishing and not fishing.
A friend of mine loves the boundary waters of Northern Minnesota. His favorite story involves a particularly long trek where he needed to pack light... Only the basics. Another friend of mine loves going after croakers and surfperch out in Southern California. This guy is nuts about beach fishing. He likes a 13 foot rod to chuck that bait out as far as he can and work it in. Well his family loves playing on the beach as well and on those occasions where they pack a lunch and head out to play he can't get his long stuff packed in the car. Instead he hauls his 13 foot telescopic fishing rod and a tackle box. When lunch is done, the kids are playing and his wife is soaking up the rays, he unpacks the rod, ties on his favorite lure and starts pounding the surf. The kids even love to get in on the action, so he has a join packed for them as well.
So if you want a small tip, don't be afraid to pack along the same private weapon my friends pack. A telescopic fishing rod can for real work well.
