1. Bass comes in many different species along with freshwater and saltwater varieties. Some of the most common for freshwater are the large-mouthed, small-mouthed and spotted bass.

2. Trout can be found in a number of species with some living in saltwater and others like freshwater. The brown trout is an example of a freshwater trout. It like the entertaining waters of a stream channel. They like the deeper areas which are called runs.

3. Catfish are part of the ray-finned fish group. They are known for the barbels that look like the whiskers of cats. This type of fish can range in size from small to very large depending on the breed. They are bottom feeders so this is where to catch them.

4. Walleye is a type of perciform fish that lives in freshwater. This fish lives mostly in the Northern United States and Canada. It can be referred to as a yellow walleye at times to tell it apart from the now-extinct blue walleye, a species of walleye that used to live in the southern areas of the Great Lakes.

5. Pike or the northern pike is a carnivorous fish that like freshwater or water that is brackish. This fish lives in the northern hemisphere in Canada, the United States, Ireland and Britain for examples.
