Spring Has Sprung! Fishing For Northern Pike

There's nothing good after a long winter than hitting the water that first time. In this narrative I will form a few basic tactics and skills that will help you catch more pike this spring.

The northern pike, also known as the water wolf, is a fish that will give you a good fight when trying to be caught. It can reach pretty serious weights, but even the smaller ones are perfectly capable of fighting and jumping straight through the air.

Equipment
When chasing the northern pike, the tool you choose can often be a needful component to your success. Beefy tackle is recommended, and baitcast combos are the way to go.

A good rod would be a 7 foot medium-heavy action. This should suffice unless you're using de facto heavy bait (and if the fish are very big where you are), in which case you may want to upgrade that rod to a heavier one.
Line choices are simple. Use monofilament or braid. If you use mono, choose at least a twenty pound test. For braid, the thorough should be a minimum fifty-pound. Regardless, a leader is a must when attaching main line to lure. Wire leaders of one foot to eighteen-inches will cover all bases. By religiously using a leader, your chances of teeth and gill rakers cutting straight through your line are drastically reduced.

Spring Locations
Northern pike spawn during the early spring in shallow water, often when the ice is still sitting on the lake top. The period right after the ice leaves is often best for catching the larger pike, as the majority of "just spawned" will linger in this shallow water for some time.

As the pike make their way out of the shallows, they will stage on the first structure they can locate. This can be weedbeds, points, or the first drop-off situated in the main body of water. Looking these gems can often be easy, as working your boat outwards from the bay itself will have you de facto stumbling upon the prime fishing spots.

Your Tackle Box
Outfitting your box for pike fishing is also not difficult. Lure choices are quite universal, and having a small range of baits at your disposal will not be very expensive. I would make my choices from the following list, and get ready to hang on tight to that rod!

Spoons Spinnerbaits and Bucktails Jerkbaits Topwaters Soft Plastic Stickbaits

These tips should help you be more successful, but to me, just getting back out on the water after a long winter is a success story in itself, regardless of how many northern pike I may or may not catch first time out. Good luck!

Spring Bass Fishing - Tips on Boat Ramp Etiquette

Spring bass Fishing lures millions of anglers each year. Warm weather signals fishermen to grab their gear, hook up their boats and head to their beloved lake. Whatever who has been to a boat ramp at first light on a warm spring Saturday realizes that bass Fishing is a Very beloved sport.

We've all been in line at the boat ramp only to find that one new boater can bring the boat open process to a grist halt. Sometimes it's almost as if the boat does not want to go in the water. There are things that you can do to expedite the process...experienced or not.

Before You Go To The Lake

If you have not been on the water since last season, spend in a few dollars on a pair of "ear muffs" for your motor, and test your it before you leave your house. Make sure that your motor is working properly and starts quickly. When you get to the boat ramp, you can quickly open your boat and get out of the way for the next man to launch. Don't wait until you are backed into the water only to find out that your motor wont' start.

If you have started your boat at home but find that it wont' start when you get to the lake, quickly check the following:

Did the kill switch get pulled accidentally? Battery connections; these sometimes loosen due to vibration from traveling. Make sure the ball on your fuel line is hard and primed. If your motor is not getting fuel, it won't start!

Before You Get In Line

If you are launching your boat at a State Park or private marina, you most likely will have to pay a fee. Fill out the information on the envelope and pay your fee prior to getting in line at the ramp.

Also, unhook you straps and remove your transom saver prior to getting to the water. Only leave your front strap hooked until you boat is in the water.

Backing Down the Ramp

Inexperience boaters are often uneasy about backing their boat down level down the ramp. Consequent these techniques

Start by manufacture sure your trailer is level behind your truck. Keep your wheel in line with the side of your truck. Place one hand on the bottom of the steering wheel to decree which way you want the trailer to move. If your boat needs to go to the left, move your bottom hand to the left. institution in a parking lot away from the lake until you are comfortable backing the trailer in a level line.

Boat Ramps with multiple Lanes

If the boat ramp you are using can adapt more than one boat at a time, make sure you don't take up more than one space. This seems like a pretty certain thing to do, but it happens all the time.

No Partner?

If you are Fishing without a partner, make sure your front deck is clean and of course accessible. This will make climbing into your boat when it's backed down the ramp quick and easy. Start your boat and quickly tie it off on the opposite side of the courtesy dock (if there is one) or pull your boat up onto the bank away from the ramp so you don't block any other boaters once you move your tuck.

Courtesy Dock

The courtesy dock is for unloading your boat. If you have to get rods ready, changes lures, re-spool your reel, motor out to the middle of the cove or the lake. Hanging nearby the courtesy dock will preclude other who Are launching their boat from using it.

Don't be the guy at the ramp that everybody hates to have in front of them. Putting your boat in the water should be quick and easy. Do you have any other tips??
