Spring Has Sprung! Fishing For Northern Pike

There's nothing good after a long winter than hitting the water that first time. In this narrative I will form a few basic tactics and skills that will help you catch more pike this spring.

The northern pike, also known as the water wolf, is a fish that will give you a good fight when trying to be caught. It can reach pretty serious weights, but even the smaller ones are perfectly capable of fighting and jumping straight through the air.

Shimano Fishing

Equipment
When chasing the northern pike, the tool you choose can often be a needful component to your success. Beefy tackle is recommended, and baitcast combos are the way to go.

A good rod would be a 7 foot medium-heavy action. This should suffice unless you're using de facto heavy bait (and if the fish are very big where you are), in which case you may want to upgrade that rod to a heavier one.
Line choices are simple. Use monofilament or braid. If you use mono, choose at least a twenty pound test. For braid, the thorough should be a minimum fifty-pound. Regardless, a leader is a must when attaching main line to lure. Wire leaders of one foot to eighteen-inches will cover all bases. By religiously using a leader, your chances of teeth and gill rakers cutting straight through your line are drastically reduced.

Spring Locations
Northern pike spawn during the early spring in shallow water, often when the ice is still sitting on the lake top. The period right after the ice leaves is often best for catching the larger pike, as the majority of "just spawned" will linger in this shallow water for some time.

As the pike make their way out of the shallows, they will stage on the first structure they can locate. This can be weedbeds, points, or the first drop-off situated in the main body of water. Looking these gems can often be easy, as working your boat outwards from the bay itself will have you de facto stumbling upon the prime fishing spots.

Your Tackle Box
Outfitting your box for pike fishing is also not difficult. Lure choices are quite universal, and having a small range of baits at your disposal will not be very expensive. I would make my choices from the following list, and get ready to hang on tight to that rod!

Spoons Spinnerbaits and Bucktails Jerkbaits Topwaters Soft Plastic Stickbaits

These tips should help you be more successful, but to me, just getting back out on the water after a long winter is a success story in itself, regardless of how many northern pike I may or may not catch first time out. Good luck!

Hardy Lightweight Series Fly Reels

I saw my first Hardy fly reel years ago while I was fishing the lower section of Oregon's Rogue River. The reel was a Hardy Princess and the following year I was the proud owner of a brand new one. The Princess was introduced in the l950's and 60's in a stable of seven fly reels that Hardy called their lightweight series. Features included: A right hand crank that could be switched to left hand if needed, similar adjustable drag systems with a clicking sound that is extra only to Hardy fly reels, and a machined aluminum "foot" that is dovetailed into a reel frame of cast aluminum and riveted for added strength. All models featured unique but simple chrome line guards a beautiful gray stop and a removable aluminum spool.

The Hardy reels in the lightweight series that are no longer in output contain the Princes (1953-2003), Zenith (1960-2003), St Aidan (1964-2003) and the St. Andrew (1961-1964). These models, like many other Hardy reels that are no longer being produced will only growth in value as time passes. This is one hypothesize I believe that if purchased with care on the used store these classic fly reels can be a good venture and a fly-fishing reel you can use and enjoy. The Zenith, Saint Aidan, and the Saint Andrew were all larger fly reels that included all the lightweight series features and were originally designed for Sea Trout fishing in Europe. They have stronger, adjustable drag systems with larger fly spools for heavy fly lines and more fly line backing capacity. Although sometimes difficult to find, these reels make very nice vintage Steelhead fly reels.

Shimano Fishing

There are three lightweight models that are still in production, the Flyweight, the Featherweight, and the Lrh lightweight. These updated versions of the classics are now machined from high capability bar stock aluminum but still have all the features of the early models. They can be purchased or ordered from most capability fly shops.

One of the most popular trout fly reels in the lightweight series has to be the Lrh lightweight. The "Lrh" is the initials of Lawrence Robert Hardy, who, no doubt had some influence in the lightweight series. I believe that the Lrh is also the fly reel that is featured on the Federation of Fly Fishers logo. The Lrh is just about ideal for most trout fishing applications. It has a nice adjustable click drag principles with the distinctive Hardy "click" sound, and it can hold fly lines up to a Wf-6 floating fly line or a Dt-5 and about 75 yards of fly line backing. Extra reel spools are also ready if the angler needs to make use of different types of fly lines while a fishing outing.

The next fly reel to think in the lightweight series is the Hardy Princess, only ready in the used market. The Princess is slightly larger than the Lrh and has a spool diameter of 3-1/8" that will hold a Wf-6 or a Wf-7 fly line and 100 yards of 20 lb.fly line backing. This reel also has the same type of adjustable drag principles as the Lrh and extra spools are also ready on the used store The Princess can deal with larger fresh water game fish, on rivers and lakes and is also a good "all around" fly reel that can be used when fishing streamers or fishing other types of heavy flies.

Fall Fishing for Bass

This is one of my popular times of year to fish for bass. Why? Well, the water temperatures are cooling off, the bass are advent back in the shallows and I have hooked a lot of damn nice bass in the fall.

We all know during the summer when the water gets hot, bass are less likely to be in the shallows except in the early morning and toward evening. The same isn't true in the fall. Once the water temperatures drop, the bass can be in shallow water any time of day. This makes for a slight easier fishing.

Shimano Fishing

This is also one of my popular times to use topwater lures. I use big topwater lures in the fall and have caught some no ifs ands or buts nice fish. One of my favorites to use is the Meadow Mouse. While they don't build this lure anymore, I did get a join of them on eBay at a pretty good price. If you have been reading this blog, you'll know why I paid so much for them. If not, look in the archives of this blog.

One of the biggest fish I have ever hooked in Ohio was in the fall on topwater. I know it had to be over 10 pounds. Since, I have a 12 pound 14 ounce on my wall, I know what a 10 pound bass looks like. While a 10 pounded is more tasteless in Florida, one this size is Ohio is pretty rare in comparison.

I like to use a buzzbait in the fall too. Especially early fall when the water the high 70's-low 80's range. While you can use a buzzbait anytime the water temps are 50+, I prefer these climatic characteristic a slight higher.

Know what a prop bait looks like? You know, the ones with a propellor on one end or both ends. I have had perfect success with these in the fall. Matter of fact, when I was a kid, I caught the biggest bass of my life. My brother had caught a carp and my bass was a lot bigger than his carp. My dad who was in his 70's at the time said it was the biggest bass he had ever seen. Of course, no one cared to weight it, but they did take the time to eat it and even then it bothered me for them to eat a bass and I wasn't even a adolescent yet.

I use these prop baits a slight dissimilar than most citizen and again, if you get my newsletter, you know what I'm talking about. I have my own technique for topwater lures. When you do fish topwater, fish the lure slower than usual, especially when the water temps gets below 70 or less.

If you're one of those citizen who slow down you're fishing because it's fall, you are missing out on some of the best fishing of the year. Believe me!

This report is taken from my "Bass Fishing-From Cast to Catch"-ebook.

Lake Toho is settled next to the City of Kissimmee in central Florida. It is the second largest lake in the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes and represents the second largest water body on the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes. It is noted to be one of the premier largemouth bass fishing destinations in the Usa. Many expert and amateur fishing tournaments are held here every year.

Shimano Fishing

The following Lake Tohopekaliga fishing article identifies areas around the lake that have been known to hold largemouth bass the information comes from the Florida Fish and wildlife website.

Area #1 Lily pads, Land bulrushes along the north shore of Fells Cove hold numbers of bass in the cooler months. Fish plastic worms along vegetation in 4-to 6-foot depths.

Area #2 The mouth of Lake Ajay canal produces when water is flowing after spring or summer rains. Schools of bass and bullhead catfish are drawn to the flowing water and respond to live baits or artificials. Fishing with cut bait or 4-to 6-inch shiners is a proven technique for giant catfish.

Area #3 Bass anglers fishing with live bait are often thriving along the southeast side of Fells Cove. To catch a large bass in spring or summer, anchor near the cattails or slow-troll the weedline with an electric motor. Troll from the Fells Cove cut to Lake Ajay canal, keeping the shiners 20 feet behind the boat and near the surface weedline.

Area #4 Bass and bluegill are taken from the first 30 yards of weeds extending along the cut from the Fells Cove mouth. If it's windy, fish the whole canal all the way to the main lake. Cast topwater plugs and minnow-type lures around the grass for bass.

Area #5 The Fells Cove canal entry holds bass year-around. Bass anglers throw lipless crankbaits into the open water or plastic worms to the weedline. Fish the area when there is a current coming into the lake and continue on into the canal for 25 to 50 yards when the bass are actively feeding. Some large catfish have been taken from this canal mouth accidentally on artificials, but cut bait is adored by catfishermen. Fish when runoff from a rain generates a current.

Area #6 The deep hole off the Boy Scout camp is known for keeping bass. Troll live shiners 30 yards behind the boat or spray cast a crankbait around the drop-off. Silver/black is a favorite color for study bass in summer. The fish hold on the dropoff which slopes from 6 feet on the edge of the hole to 16 feet at the bottom. Fish live shiners close to the bottom. Use weedless plastics to fish the bulrush.

Area #7 This area of scattered bulrushes and grass patches holds bass year around. It is a prime wading area; some anglers hop in and tow their boat behind them with a line around their waist. Cast white and gold-bladed spinnerbaits. Plastic worms and lizards are productive in the 3-to 4-foot depths. Gradually crawl Texas-rigged plastics with 3/16-to 1/4-ounce slip sinkers straight through the weedline in the cooler months.

Area #8 Grass patches along the east side hold bass all year. Also work the boat cuts straight through and behind the densest cover in spring and fall. Weedless spoons, plastic worms and jerkbaits are productive in the open pockets. Panfishermen can catch bluegill in the summer and crappie in January and February.

Area #9 Bass can be caught throughout the whole distance of the Lake Runnymede Canal. Fishing is best in late spring and early fall. Work jerkbaits, topwater plugs and vibrating lures around the masses of hydrilla along the banks. Texas-rigged plastic worms are productive when fished in and over the hydrilla.

Area #10 Buzzbaits and spinnerbaits take bass from the open water around the hydrilla on the southwest side of Runnymede Lake. Fish all the pockets and cuts straight through the vegetation in the spring and fall. At night, crawl dark plastic worms in the same pockets. Black and purple are proven colors.

Well I hope the 10 areas identified in this Florida lake Tohopekaliga fishing article will help on you plan your next freshwater fishing trip to Florida.

Fly Fishing Small Mountain Streams

Everyone likes fly fishing in the open waters but fly fishing small mountain streams can be very enjoyable. The casting is easier and the trout are sometimes larger. Small stream fishing demands pinpoint casting, stealth, and the capability to read the water. Choosing a fly for this style of fishing is made easier by the fact that wild trout tend to be more opportunistic than their big water cousins. This may be because there is less food and more competition for it. If you stick with the most base variety, such as caddis flies or small streamers, you can have a stellar day.

Fly fishing small mountain streams doesn't require you to carry thousands of flies or lots of equipment. I have a friend who believes in order to be prepared, one must carry every item that you could possibly use and his vest feels like it weighs a hundred pounds. At the end of the day he can barely walk. All you need is a fly rod shorter than what most population use and some original mayfly patterns, a few caddis fly patterns and a streamer. You don't have much room to dry off your fly with a false cast so you will most undoubtedly need a bottle of your beloved floatant for your dry flies. For best results, use a silicone gel and a shaker floatant together for the fly to float longer before re-application.

Shimano Fishing

For this type of fishing my beloved rod is a 7 foot 5 weight; however, it will be beneficial to use a weight forward line that is one size heavier than what the rod is sized for. In this case I use a 6 weight line on this rod. This will enable you to make shorter casts on the stream and the rod will load better. The need for a shorter rod arises from the cover that regularly occurs around small streams.

A small fly box that will carry a few dozen flies is all you need. In my box I have some mayfly patterns. Depending upon the time of year, they could be March Brown, Royal Coachman, and the Leadwing Coachman, which represents the mayfly Isonychia Bicolor. My box is generally filled with caddis patterns which range from size 10 to 22 in colors of brown, green, orange, yellow, and black. The one streamer I rely on is a distinction of the Edson Tiger. I tie my own flies and I use a Hareline product called Pseudo Marabou for the streamer wing. This product is soft and quivers nicely in the water. The original pattern uses bucktail for the wing. When the day is not going the way I would like, I tie one of these streamers on and it never seems to let me down. Why I don't use it exclusively? I like to see the tantalizing take of a dry fly.

You can fish these small mountain streams all year long as they are not regularly field to the temperature rise that the larger open streams endure. After a rain the stream will be full of insects that have washed into it. Even when a heavy thunderstorm passes over the stream, the flow may increase from runoff and become a miniature cloudy but never unfishable. It will undoubtedly become clear within an hour of the storm passing.

To be victorious you need to use a stealthy approach as the trout not only see your approach, they also feel your footsteps. You must settle how you will cast to your selected spot while staying low and out of sight. There is one stream that I climb a steep bank to study how the fish are feeding or lying. Then I plan my attack. Hopefully it is a victorious one. Your life is made easier if you fish the stream upstream. Most of your casts will be the roll cast since there is miniature room for a back cast. On the other hand, fishing upstream affords you the occasion to use anything open space may be over the stream as an area for your backcast. If you select wisely, a cast of less than 20 feet will put your fly over the fish. If possible, study the stream from a distance. Anticipate where the trout will be lying in wait for food. Bounce Elk Hair Caddis flies along the edges of fast current where the fish can't see you due to the turbulence of the water. Trout will rest at the edge of the current just waiting for their prey to come by. Use delta wing caddis flies or flies that are imitating injured adults in the slow pools.

So the next time the water temperatures are too high in your beloved large stream, crusade out the small mountain stream. It may be one of your best fly fishing experiences. You might even see a bear or two.

Top 5 Smallmouth Fishing Tips

In this description I'm going to recite 5 smallmouth bass Fishing tips that will help any angler catch more smallmouth bass on their next Fishing excursion. Although most of these tips can be modified to help you catch smallmouth in many situations, they are particularly sufficient when used in the flowing waters of both streams and small rivers. If you never realized it, these fish can be caught in much the same manner as trout, and this is the type of Fishing I'm referring to.

Smallmouth Bass are widely thought about to be the hardest fighting fish, pound for pound, that swims in freshwater. If you throw the current of a river or stream into the mix, the results can be as much fun as a man can have with their clothes on! These hard fighting fish have an uncanny knack for using the current top their advantage during the fight, which can make landing them that much more challenging.

Shimano Fishing

In any case, let's get down to business, shall we? As far as I'm concerned, the tips below are the top 5 smallmouth fishing tips (in no singular order).

Use Light Gear - When fishing for smallmouth, especially in river and stream situations, we want to use fishing gear that's as light as possible. When I refer to the word 'gear', I'm referring specifically to your rod, reel, and line. I personally prefer ultra light action rods and reels, spooled with four-pound test. Light action gear spooled with six-eight pound test is passable as well, but anything heavier than this should not be employed. Using light gear will corollary in more bites, and more bites will corollary in more fish being caught, it's that simple. Be sufficient - Being sufficient when your on the water is important, because the more sufficient you are the more time you spend with your line in the water (where the fish are), rather than searching for gear and/or bait. This is especially true when wading and fishing the flowing waters of a river or stream. This is where things like retractors, rod rulers, and bait bags come into play. All of these products make you more efficient, which means you get to spend more time with your line in the water. Being as sufficient as possible when smallmouth fishing is always a good idea. Pay attention To Your Hands - This tip is especially true for bait fishermen. Smallmouth have a sensitive sense of smell, and if they detect unnatural scents on the bait your using, they will tend not to bite. This is why you need to make sure that you don't have any unnatural scents on your hands that might change to your bait. A good institution is to grab a handful of grass or dirt and rub it in your hands periodically. This will help to eliminate any unnatural odors (that might be on your hands). Pay attention To When You're Fishing - The time when you're fishing is very important. Did you know that natural occurrences such as the weather and moon have an predicted impact on the behavior of fish? They truly do, and fishing when these factors are in your favor is a great idea. Very few things will have as big an impact on your catch rates as the weather and moon. That's why a great tip is to post yourself with the weather and moon and how the two affect fishing. It will help you catch more smallmouth, I promise you. Use Gang Hooks - When fishing for smallmouth, you want your bait to look as natural as possible. The best way to accomplish this is through the use of pre-tied gang hooks. Gang hooks allow live bait (especially live worms) to be presented in the most natural way possible. Don't you think a live worm should look like a live worm, rather than some sort of worm ball? Of course, it only makes sense, which is why pre-tied gang hooks should always be employed when using live bait to fish for smallmouth. These top 5 smallmouth fishing tips will help you catch more bass on your next fishing trip. hire one or all of them, and find out for yourself. How am I so sure that these are the top 5 smallmouth fishing tips? Because I've personally been using every one of them to catch more smallmouth for more than 20 years, and know they work. And if they work for me, they will work for anyone.

common Fishing Tackle Rundown - J W Young and Sons - Ray Walton Rolling Pin Centrepin Reel

In the event you are a barbell fisherman, you then should take a essential look at a reel manufactured by J. W. Young: the Ray Walton rolling pin centrepin Fishing reel. This reel is a must for barbell anglers inspecting its distinctive "sidecasting" highlight which employs a basic publish mechanism make it possible for the spool to be revolved 90 degrees so one can cast from the side of the drum. The Fishing reel is thoroughly remarkable for fishing in small venues or in areas where long casts are needed,, for instance, fishing on huge rivers. The reel has two ball bearings, ratchet check, has a a certificate of authenticity signed by Mr. J. R. Young and also has an exclusive serial whole that complies with the agreement in the certificate of authenticity. I also like the fact that the fishing reel is fully and painstakingly built by hand.

Information with regard to Youngs Ray Walton Rolling Pin Centrepin Fishing Reel

Shimano Fishing

The reel's proportions are 3.8" x 1" and it has a weight of 270 grams. It usually is designed in a black colour, but is accessible in silver on exact order. Count on to pay nearby £325.00 for this reel, but crusade for Internet sellers that offer reduced rates or free shipping. The Youngs' Ray Walton reel is equipped with a spring and thumb wheel on spoke drag law and a drum size of 3 3/4." It does not have a line guard but does come with a resilient canvas pouch. I specifically like this reel in observation of the rare and exceptional swivel drum which can be set to allow casting just like a tasteless fixed spool reel. The result? Long and exact casts of floats as well as baits. Even though quite pricey, I identified its functioning level to be exceptional, specially when fighting a weighty fish on the pin alone. The fishing reel additionally enables perfect bait presentation if fishing involving rivers.

Outstanding Engineering Means a perfect Fishing Reel

The Ray Walton fishing reel gives me nearly ideal rule over the float. It also is built with a drag law which works by means of the fisherman's fingers exerting force on the reel rim, a very effective way to slow down and also exhaust a fish on the line. I do desire it when compared to a pre-set clutch and think that fishing on this sort of fishing reel is immensely satisfying.

Engineered from a solid billet of aluminium and designed with gold lettering on the back plate, this is a good-looking, fashionable reel. The spool is developed nearby a centre hub which is supported by six nickel silver spokes. The hub is equipped with a concentrate of stainless steel bearings. The reel's quick publish latch is positioned on one of the spokes, and on the other spoke the micro adjustable drag law is located. The reel has a ventilated spool.

So What All Do You Need When You Go Offshore Fishing?

When planning an offshore Fishing trip, you need to do a range of things before ever leaving the dock. To begin, you need to confirm the weather is thorough for the boat size you will be taking. Remember, you never take a boat to go out in; you take a boat to come back in. This clearly points to the fact that weather conditions can convert quickly offshore and you must have a boat seaworthy sufficient to bring you back in. Determining seaworthiness is left up to the boat condition as well as the captain piloting the boat. After you have cleared the weather forecast, it is now time to get your gear prepared. This plainly means if you are going to be bottom Fishing, you need stiffer rods and reels with higher line capacity for high pound test Fishing line. On the other hand, if you are going after king mackerel and mahi-mahi, you will need live bait rods.

A live bait rod normally is flexible at the tip and gets stiffer as you move more towards the rod butt. In general, most live bait rods apply twenty pound test line and reels capable of containing four hundred yards worth of line. Rods and reels are only a measure of what you need to take along with you. Other gear that you need to get ready is concluding tackle, Fishing tools such as tongs and gaffs, and bait. concluding tackle is the hardware you use to tie to the end of the fishing line and rig your hooks.

Shimano Fishing

This comes in all kinds of sorts and you will want to cater this to the type of fish you are targeting. Remember, some fish have awful nice teeth and they can cut your tackle into pieces if you are not careful. Fascinating on to bait, you will need a compound of both live and dead bait. Dead bait can be a range between sardines, cigar minnows, or ribbonfish. Live bait can be a compound of sardines, cigar minnows or mullet. A hint would be to find out at your local tackle store where fishermen have been looking the live bait schools and net some up before you go. Don't be afraid to try, you may be surprised how many bait fish you can catch on your own. This will save you some money as well as ensure that your bait will likely last a minuscule while longer throughout the day.

So now that you have your boat ready, the weather is feasible, and your gear is together, you need to get your self prepared. At this point I would include protection gear as a must. protection gear ranges from the thorough life jackets to Epirbs and homing beacons. Dependent on where you are fishing, I advise you adequately acquire the protection gear that will work to keep you safe in the event things do not go as well as planned. From here, you will need to ensure you get a good number of sleep, and eat a light morning meal the morning before you go. Don't forget to bring sunscreen because it will likely get hot out on the water. Throw some drinks in your cooler as well so that you can keep yourself hydrated throughout the day as well. If you think you will get hungry, bring along abundance of snacks or sandwiches to keep you satisfied throughout the day. The only thing to do from here is get your boat to the water and enjoy your trip.

Fishing Reel Guide

There are different sizes and shapes of Fishing reels that can decide the right kind that you need is a very discouraging job. If you happen to know about the different kinds of Fishing reels, then your task of getting what you need will get easier and simpler.

Five groups in general make up Fishing reels: the open faced, fulfilled, face spinning, fly, bait-casting, and electric fishing reels. In this article, the open faced spinning, bait-casting, and fulfilled, face spinning reels will be tackled.

Shimano Fishing

In selecting the right kind, there is a need to think over about two things. The first thing that you need to reconsider is the level of your skill. The second thing that you need to reconsider is the kind of fishing where you are going to make use of the equipment. If you happen to be a novice fisherman, then you must reconsider purchasing a fulfilled, face reel for it can make your job easier and save some of your money.

The simplest kind of reel to control is the fulfilled, face reel for it requires small skill. Its spool contains the line, the covered mechanical parts, and a button on top or at the back of the reel that can be pressed at the start of the cast and at the finish. Because the line is enclosed underneath a cover, there is a small occasion of having a counterattack. This kind of reel is excellent for children who are just novices on fishing. The easiness of use of the fulfilled, face reel is done just like a Snoopy Rod where the rod and reel are combined in one reel.

For having an easy operation, the spinning reel can be used similar to the open faced reels. As soon as you come to be at ease in using the fulfilled, face reel, you can now shift to the spinning reel or the open faced reel. It contains a line that is coiled onto a spool which has a bigger size and there is a different release. It also has a bail, a wire-like tool that is situated at the front of the reel at almost on a eleven o'clock spot. Open face reels are made especially for lighter lines in the two to twelve pound test range and so a lot of anglers make use of this kind of reel when they go for Finesse fishing.

The last reel that is going to be discussed is the hardest kind of reel to learn how to operate. This kind of reel is known as the Bait Caster or the Level Wind reel for a few older anglers. You must have the excellent insight on how the cast works and how to control the reel. There is also a need to know about the varied masses that have an influence on the quality of the reel. Moreover, the mechanical components of the reel can be adjusted to suit the weight and wind conditions. Once you have learned about how these type of reels are used, you can gain easiness in operating them. However, there are still instances that you must face horrible backlashes even though you try hard not to.

How to Clean Your Shimano Fishing Reel

Cleaning your reel is leading I'm afraid, if you want it to last, and to continue to perform. And nothing is worse than hooking that big one, only to have problems with your rod or reel. Not to mention it'll last a lot longer if you clean it once in a while!

I'll start there-how often to clean... You honestly only need to clean your real once, preferably twice a year. When Fishing in salt water, twice would be better. Ands like anything else, it's easy when you know how.

Shimano Fishing

First, here are the tools you'll need:
a clean towel a small screw driver (usually Phillips head) a small bottle of reel grease, not Wd-40 (Wd-40 can leave residue which attracts dirt. Use a high ability reel oil and grease) some Q-tips some paper towels

First, take off the reel from the rod. Use a couple of paper towels to wipe it off completely.

Next, take off the deal with of the reel. The deal with regularly is removed in one of two ways-either by removing a screw of some sort in the deal with itself, or simply by retention the reel and turning the deal with backwards. This removes the handle. Once removed, set the deal with onto a clean towel.

Now make sure that the reel is lying in such a way that the screws that hold it together are exposed. Then take off these screws (usually there are between three and five) and place them next to the handle. This should expose a small plate which can now be removed. take off that plate and put it next to your screws.

At this point the inside of the reel is exposed. Use a clean Q-tip to take off any illustrated dirt that you see inside the reel. Then use your reel grease and put a couple of drops on every involving gear that you see.

Note: More is not necessarily great here! Too much grease will clog everything up. You honestly only need a tiny bit of reel grease to do the job properly.

To reassemble, simply reverse the above process. Put the plate back into place and screw in the screws. Before reattaching the deal with though, add some grease to it as well. Finally, re-install the handle.

Differences Among Fly Fishing Reel Types

Sport fishermen and anglers nowadays can make your mind up from three fly Fishing reel types agreeing to mechanism. These are the single-action, multiplying, and automated fly reels.

Of the three, the single-action type is the simplest. The name is derived from what is known as the "retrieve ratio" - a full turn of the deal with will result in a unblemished turn of the spool. Thus it is easier to estimation or gauge the response of this reel when the reel is turned. Compared to the other two, the single-action fly reel has the least amount of sharp parts inside it, which contributes significantly to its durableness and reliability. Consequently, this type of reel is by far the most popular.

Shimano Fishing

The second type is the multiplying fly reel. As its name suggests, this type has a retrieve ratio that is greater than 1 to 1, meaning that a full turn of the deal with will bring about two or more turns of the spool, reeling a Fishing line in faster than a single-action reel can manage. As can be expected, while precisely convenient, this sort of reel has been described as less trustworthy than the single-action type, and is less favorite as a result. But it can be said that the multiplying fly reel strikes the best equilibrium compared to the other two.

The last kind of fly Fishing reel is the automated fly reel. This drops the reel deal with thoroughly and instead makes use of a mechanism that reels the fishing line in very quickly. However, many anglers have found this sort of reel boxy and cumbersome, and it has been said that the large amount of sharp parts makes it less reliable. However, it can't be beat for convenience.

Trolling Reels - Saltwater Lever Drag Two Speed Fishing Reels For Big Game

Trolling reels are typically used for offshore big-game trolling in open water. Trolling is the process of dragging both bait and lures behind a absorbing vessel, which is a efficient way to search schools of migratory fish. The reason being, when a boat trolls over a school of fish, the wake and commotion on the exterior emulates a ball of bait. This triggers the feeding instincts of many offshore species and immediately sends the foremost edge of the school towards the commotion to investigate, with the rest of the pack following. As the most aggressive fish in the school frantically try and chase down this commotion, the trolling lures, jigs and baits are the first hint of a meal that they come across. They fee at them with reckless abandon, inhaling what appears to the fish as vulnerable stragglers, desperately trying to catch up with the rest of the pack.

As soon as one of the trolling lures or baits is inhaled, the trolling reel begins to sing, with the clicker of the reel creating a loud noise that notifies the angler to get ready. This sends the anglers into a dash for their gear, yelling "hook-up", which immediately causes the captain to throw the vessel into neutral to stop the boat. As the momentum of the vessel carries the boat forward, the crew begins to throw live bait, whether by pieces or in full scoops. By now, the rest of the migrating school has caught up to the commotion and is met with the temptation of live bait, sending them into a feeding frenzy.

Shimano Fishing

However, a wide-open bite is not all the time the succeed of a hook-up while trolling. When the fish are down, or when the conditions are far from ideal, trolling will yield the majority of the catch, with no feeding frenzy following the trolled up fish. On these days, it is indispensable to land every troll fish and having the right equipment is indispensable in accomplishing this. Trolling rod and reel combos are the most high-priced combos on the store today. Due to their significance in locating roaming schools of open water fish, manufacturers like Shimano®, Penn®, Daiwa®, Okuma® and Accurate® couple the finest materials and technologies to ensure force and durableness in producing the best Fishing reel capable of handling record-breaking trophies.

Trolling reels are typically found in the lever drag system. On these types of Fishing reels, the drag pressure adjusts with the slide of a lever, which is located on the top of the reel to the right. Designated markings of, or similar to freespool, charge and full are found on reels like the Penn® International series, Shimano Tiagra® and the Acurrate Twin Drag® saltwater trolling reels. Most later models come in a two- speed version, with two separate gear ratios that serve different purposes. The high gear is to gain as much line as possible with every turn of the handle, sacrificing torque and power. Low gear, on the other hand, provides stupendous torque and in return, sacrifices the capability to retrieve a stupendous number of line per crank. When properly utilized, both gears are designed to maximize the chances of swiftly and efficiently landing scale-busting size fish.

The most noticeable incompatibility in a trolling reel are the two rings that sit atop all trolling fishing reels. These rings are part of the frame and hold an stupendous number of strength. Trolling straps are attached straight through these rings, as well as big game harnesses and on some occasions, a back-up rod and reel combo, a common convention when fishing on long range boats out of San Diego for huge bluefin and yellowfin tuna. Trolling reels are so strong and powerful, I have even seen anglers cut these rings off and even go so far as to make convention frames to facilely way the spool and use trolling reels as live bait reels. I do not advise this practice, as many of the newest star-drag approved reels will serve the same purpose.

With the high prices of fuel, trolling colse to in offshore waters can be very costly. That is why every serious big-game angler should consider having the best saltwater tackle available when it comes to their arsenal. The properly maintained saltwater combo can mean the incompatibility in advent home with a trophy of a lifetime, or advent home skunked, carrying an empty sack.

When is the Best Time to Be Fishing?

In this narrative I'm going to study the talk to the question, when is the best time to be Fishing. Most citizen think that the best time to be Fishing is anytime they get a chance, but the truth is that there are ways to be a bit more scientific than this. Without getting crazy and too involved, it is possible to use some simple rules in order to tip the odds into your favor so that you're on the water when the fish are the most active.

When fish are "active" it means that they are actively feeding, which means that they are much more apt to bite your offering. My question is this; if you could be fishing when the fish are more apt to be active, why wouldn't you? Of course you would, so supervene the simple tips in this narrative and you'll be much best off.

Shimano Fishing

Determining the best time to be fishing can be fairly simple. Let's begin with the weather. The weather, or more importantly the barometric pressure, has in overwhelming impact on the performance level of fish. As frontal systems pass straight through the area that you are going to be fishing the barometric pressure changes, which the fish "feel" and makes the fish active or inactive. So you'll want to pay attentiveness to the weather, or more specifically frontal systems, as you're planning a fishing trip.

As a general rule when the barometer is high (a high pressure system) fishing isn't very good. When the barometer is low (a low pressure system) the fishing isn't very good either. You're looking to catch the barometer as it's rising or falling. As a theory is arrival or going the barometer is moving, and generally the fishing is better.

The next thing to focus on when trying to figure out the best time to be fishing is the moon or more specifically the phase that the moon is in. The phase that the moon is in has a dramatic impact on the feeding behavior of fish For example, fishing is best when the moon is full, as opposed to when the moon is in the third quarter. In other words, just looking at the calendar and figuring out what phase the moon will be in when you are planning to go fishing will help you catch more fish. Kind of cool huh?

Simple rules (such as the ones above) will help you be on the water when fish are the most active, which will help you be more successful. Are these the only rules in determining the best time to be fishing? Of course not, but these rules are really in the top ten. Give one or both of them a shot and find out for yourself, you won't be disappointed.

The Drama of Fly Fishing

A fly Fishing rod is the most prominent piece of fly Fishing gear that you can buy. Fly Fishing rods are long, thin, flexible fishing rods, combined with heavy line, designed to cast a fly. A fly commonly consists of a hook tied with fur, feathers, foam, or other lightweight material.

There are a number of considerations that you should value in selecting a fly rod to meet your personel needs.

Shimano Fishing

You should carefully investigate the materials that are used to produce fly rods. Manufacturers typically make fly fishing rods out of fiberglass or graphite. First, let's look at fiberglass. Experts and beginners alike can use beloved fiberglass fly rods in most fishing conditions. By contrast, graphite fly rods are commonly more expensive than fiberglass. And, lightweight graphite fly rods typically allow more exact casting.

Let's scrutinize the actions of different fly rod types.

Slow-action rods - you can reel in small lightweight fish with these flexible rods. Slow-action rods have the most bend, manufacture them difficult for beginners to control, but offer great accuracy for short-range casting.

Medium-action fly rods - beginners commonly find medium-action fly fishing rods easy to handle.

Fast-action fly rods - Stiff fast-action rods bend at the end of the rod and do not have a lot of give.

Shorter fly rods commonly have less activity than longer rods because they originate less torque when casting and reeling. Use short fly rods, measuring less than eight feet, in tight fishing situations where trees, bushes, stream size, or other objects will restrict your movement. Medium-sized fly rods, between eight and nine feet, provide the action, casting control, and vigor you may need. You can use medium-sized rods in most fly fishing conditions. Large fly rods measuring more than nine feet - make the ideal choice for longer casting and the pursuit of big-game fish.

Additional create Details of Fly Fishing Rods:

Fly rods come in a wide collection of line sizes, from size #0 rods for the smallest freshwater trout and panfish up to and including #16 rods for large saltwater gamefish. Fly rods tend to have a single, large-diameter line guide (called a stripping guide), with a number of smaller looped guides (aka snake guides) spaced along the rod to help control the movement of the relatively thick fly lines. Fly fishing rods are long and light and combined with heavy lines that provide the casting weight. Fly fishers use the weight and create of the line to cast the fly fast and efficiently, without reeling in the line between casts. Fly rods are designed to let you sense a strike, set the hook, and fight and land the fish. Fly fishers speak of a "soul" in a rod, a quality gift in all great fly rods.

As indicated earlier, instead of a weighted lure, a fly rod uses the weight of the fly line for casting, and lightweight rods are capable of casting the very smallest and lightest fly. Typically, a monofilament segment called a "leader" is tied to the fly line on one end and the fly on the other.

A rod is commonly also classified by the optimal weight of fishing line or in the case of fly rods, fly line the rod should handle.

To prevent interference with casting movements, most fly rods commonly have minuscule or no butt section (handle) extending below the fishing reel. However, the spey rod, a fly rod with an elongated rear handle, is often used for fishing whether large rivers for salmon and steelhead or saltwater surf casting, using a two-handed casting technique.

Note, that it is prominent for fishers to experiment with any different types of fly fishing rods to resolve exactly what fits their style and ability.

For your ease level, fly fishing needs to be your supplier's passion in expanding to it being their business. If possible, create a personal connection with him/her. They can be immensely helpful to you.

Fly fishing commonly happens in the most beautiful natural surroundings where fly fishers often find themselves; a lonely meandering stream in the forest, a peaceful river deep between the valleys, or a tranquil blue lake somewhere up country. What a phenomenal sport!

Trout Fishing 101 - A Beginner's Guide

Catching trout as you may already know is a lot separate than Fishing for trout. So, what are the basics you should know to get started making the transition from Fishing for trout to catching trout? It's all about knowledge of the bodies of water you will be fishing and about knowledge of the species you will be targeting. There are many variables in play, and what works one day may not be the least bit efficient the next.

There are three basic species of trout I will be assuming the reader might be interested in. The most common is the rainbow trout, followed by the brown and brook trout. There are other types and subspecies of these fish, but confining conference to these three is where we will start. Are there commonalities to the three? The reply is yes.

Shimano Fishing

All three are cold water fish. A normal rule of thumb is that these fish get in issue in water temperatures over 70 degrees Fahrenheit. This is not to say that if a body of water briefly reaches this level there will be a mass fish kill, but you can be inevitable that these fish all prefer cooler waters and their feeding habits will be very affected when temperatures get close to this level.

The real issue is oxygen levels which are inversely linked to the temperature. One caveat to this is that sharp water increases oxygen levels for a given temperature of water. an additional one caveat is that there are anomalies to this rule in inevitable areas such as the Firehole River in Yellowstone National Park.

Let's start with bait fishing for trout. There are some areas where this is not allowed and you must know the regulations where you will be fishing. The reasons the rules are in place are usually to protect a fishery. Do not violate these rules because for one thing, the legal consequences are bad and also because ethically it is up to fishermen to help protect their resources. The baits that are used fall into two categories, natural and artificial. Natural would be things like worms, salmon eggs, crawdads and minnows.

These are some of the main choices and there are supplementary ones as well. Commonly speaking, these baits are fished on a relatively small hook, say size 6-12. By the way, larger numbers prescription smaller hook sizes. I have not found that leadered hooks are Commonly necessary. Depending on whether you are bottom fishing a lake, bouncing bait along the bottom of a stream, or trying to keep your bait off the bottom will dictate whether you want to use a bobber/strike indicator. usually you will want to consist of a split shot six inches to a foot above your bait. Use the smallest you can get away with to get your bait to the desired depth.

The other category of what is considered bait is the preparations. Some of these are surely natural products such as cheese formulas. Some of the more noted are artificial compounds, such as the Berkeley Powerbait product line. I have had much success with the Powerbait line as there seems to be a color that will work most anywhere. The Powerbait line is also ready in a paste or in nuggets. The paste can be messy.

The beginning place for spin fishermen targeting trout is usually the Mepps spinners and Blue Fox spinners. However, there are a multitude of other lures that will produce trout. For example, a killer lure in many rivers is a small crawdad imitation lure. Rebel commerce some that work very well. Other crankbaits are affective in places and in some areas, such as the White River of Arkansas, some surface lures will work for large Browns. Often they are used at night. The other category of lures used by spin fishermen (as well as fly fishermen) is jigs. The marabou jig is a staple of many fishermen's tackle selection. The smaller the best is usually the best bet. I have had much success on 1/64th oz jigs on spinning gear and even smaller fly fishing.

A gray area as to whether it can be used in "artificials only" or "fly areas" is plastics or soft baits. Be very true on these regs. There are artificial trout worms that can work very well. Pink and white seem to be beloved colors. usually they are bounced along the bottom of a stream.

When it comes to fly fishing, we have produced a nice beginners tutorial. I would direct you to the resource box below for that. Also, on our main fishing page, you will find a wealth of supplementary tips that can help you get started, whether it be places to go or how to fish them.

One last tip I will throw out that I have learned over a long duration of time. If you find a location you know is holding fish and they are not overly skittish, fish that location until you form out what works. I have seen many fishermen running a track meet up and down stream banks or wading. Doing this introduces too many variables until you surely come to be well-known with the area.

Staying put allows you to go through all the offerings you have to try. Something will likely work. Also, sometimes it will seem like man turned on a light switch for the fish for no explicable reason. I have tried everything and come back to a inevitable bait, fly, or lure and all of a sudden caught one fish after another. Once, I had gone hours without a landed fish. I came back to a fly pattern I had already tried and within fifteen minutes landed my daily limit. In fact, while I stringered my last fish and my fly barely dangled in the water, I hooked one over my limit. I released him immediately needless to say.

The Abu Garcia Cardinal 302 Rd Spinning Reel narrate

Although I enjoy all types of Fishing, common angling has all the time held a extra petition for me. I like the variety of species a fisherman can stalk as well as the specialised gear required. I'm particularly fond of Fishing for pike. To me, this fish is a worthy opponent. For that reason, I want my common Fishing tackle to be literally top shelf. One reel I've recently added to my tackle arsenal is the Abu Garcia Cardinal 302 Rd spinning reel. Read on for a brief enumerate of this reel, which helps me increase my opening of landing a wily pike.

About the Abu Garcia Cardinal 302 Rd Reel

Shimano Fishing

There's nothing worse than a problem with your gear when you have a fish on the line. Well, I've found that this reel from Abu Garcia performs flawlessly, especially when you consider its inexpensive price, just 44.99. Recently reworked, the 302 Rd has a estimate of key features, some of which correlate favourably with higher priced reels. The reel is sturdily built and quite good looking, with an thoughprovoking metallic green finish. The 302 Rd features five bearings and a potential brass pinion gear for trustworthy performance under the most difficult angling conditions.

Features of the Abu Garcia Cardinal 302 Rd Reel

With some reels, line twist can be a problem. Not so with the Cardinal 302's oversized line roller. Line tangles also are a thing of the past, thanks to the spool's aluminium skirt. A highlight I examine on all my reels is instant anti-reverse for clear hook setting. Fewer fish get away when I'm using this the Cardinal 302 Rd. Because I'm out for pike, I need a trustworthy reel that lets me turn the drag tension on the fly, in the midst of a thoughprovoking fight. The click-type drag adjustment on the 302 Rd's is crisp and precise, even with a large fish on the line. The folding aluminium reel cope is reversible and has a soft-touch knob that's extremely comfortable. With a graphite body, the reel is tough and built to last.

A Few Specifications

The gearing of the 302 Rd is 5.1:1. With a line capacity of up to 200 metres of yards of 4 pound test mono filament line, the reel weighs just 10.2 ounces. If you're using 6 pound test mono, the reel will hold 175 metres. It comes in a protective soft case and includes a spare graphite spool. The spool is perforated to help sacrifice the reel's farranging weight.

About Abu Garcia

For over three generations, Abu Garcia has been construction high-quality fishing tackle. The firm ensures that all gear is wholly tested and perfected under the most difficult angling conditions and venues. Abu Garcia has been named "Purveyor To The Royal Swedish Court," an honour that few companies achieve.

If you're looking for a great piece of common fishing tackle, I extremely propose the Abu Garcia Cardinal 302 Rd reel.

Surfcasting Reels delineate - Penn Slammer 460 Spinning Reel

It can be difficult to go out there and buy brand-new surfcasting reels without getting a permissible characterize of the item. This report will give a brief characterize of the Penn Slammer 460 Spinning Reel. We all know that Penn makes capability parts for the average angler, but it still doesn't hurt to get a third man point of view on some of the items.

Before I even start the characterize I have to say that this has got to be one of Penn's top models when it comes to spinning reels. This model comes with six ball bearings with an all metal housing.

Shimano Fishing

The Penn Slammer 460 Spinning Reel has its fair share of pros and cons. The reel comes with six ball bearings to give it level carrying out and is built with infinite anti-reverse. Throw in a techno-balanced rotor and a Ht 100 Drag Washer and you have yourself a nice piece of surfcasting equipment.

When you hold the 460 connected to your Fishing rod, you can absolutely feel the weight difference. Although the weight throws you a bit off it is still manageable. Some of its weight would be good used on a Penn Slammer spinning rod if only to heighten the balance. As you might expect from a company such as Penn, the reel performed absolutely fantastic. Just with a limited bit of exertion you can get wicked long casts with it. Because of the six bearings you find that the spool allows the Fishing line to leave with very limited friction.

The metal housing explains the extra weight, but because of it, the reel gives you a bit more control over the whole thing. Also, the metal housing will keep the reel in superb health for years to come and will fight off the salt watery air and other elements that might corrode the reel.

The only absolutely downside to it is the heaviness. Although you can get used to it and it slightly becomes useful later on, it is hard to get used to when you first start. The whole thing comes in at 19 ounces so you can see the disagreement is pretty noticeable.

After all that, allinclusive I am quite happy with the Penn Slammer 460 Spinning Reel. It's effective, makes the line glide with ease, and is great for the price tag. Then again, what did you expect from a company like Penn?

I would have to say that you would have to get the right equipment to go along with these surfcasting reels. I doubt that if you mix this with another company's parts, it would do quite as well. I haven't tried it yet but feel free to and tell me how it went.

You can buy this fine man-made part at roughly any sporting store or tackle box shop. I hope you enjoy your stock as I very recommend it and will undoubtedly be buying the newer models once they come out.

Cheap Sinkers

Spark plugs make exquisite disposable sinkers. Need some cheap (free) Fishing weights? Go to any gas hub and ask for them. Then, loop a rubber band through the electrode and then tapping the wire down the plug can be attached to a loop of monofilament. The rubber band stretches when the plug is hung up, and even if the extra stretching force isn't enough to break free, the band will break before the monofilament.

Shimano Fishing

Jig Weights

Jigs are one of the most versatile game-fish catchers in either fresh or saltwater. It is so foremost to have the right weight jig for your line weight. If the jig is too heavy for the line, you will loose your jig far too easily. If the jig is too light for the line, its swimming pattern will be disrupted and it won't be ass effective. This uncomplicated chart will help you take the literal, jig:

Line vigor Jig Size

4-lb. Test 1/16 to 1/8 oz.

6-lb. Test 1/8 to ¼ oz.

8-lb. Test ¼ to 3/8 oz.

10-lb. Test ¼ to ½ oz.

12-lb. Test 3/8 to 5/8 oz.

14 to 20-lb. Test 5/8 to ¾ oz

Treble Hook Replacement

When replacing the treble hooks on your lures, there are a few things to consider. Chang the split ring too because it is field to stress and rust. Use a stainless-steel split ring for strength. They do not spread or rust as to most of those that come wit h the plugs. Don't, however, use stainless steel hooks - they are more no ifs ands or buts bent out of shape by a fighting fish. Also, if a fish gets away with your plug, stainless steel will not rust out, as a plain steel hook will. Lastly, get some split-ring pinchers - they make changing your hooks easy.

Extra Springs

If you use a spinning reel, you have probably had a spring break when the Fishing gets no ifs ands or buts hot. all the time carry extras (use a 35mm-film canister) - and make sure to have a slight screwdriver along as well. custom changing it before you go out

No-slip Soles

If your winter boot soles are worn, just cut the liner to match the sole of an old sneaker. Fasten the felt to the sneaker sole with a non-soluble glue. Please a heavy object on top of the sneaker overnight, and by morning you have an all purpose non-slip shoe.

Snag-proof Spinners

Treble hooks are oftentimes "trouble" when using spinners, causing snags. Make them snag-free by removing the treble hook and replace with a particular hook. Next thread on a three to four inch twister-tail grub and Texas-rig it.

Downriggers

Need to drop your bait down deep? Fish are very uncooperative creatures, and don't all the time hang out near the surface. If your depth sounder is alerting you to fish down deeper, a downrigger can no ifs ands or buts help out.

If you aren't exactly sure what it is, it is simple. It is a spool keeping in the middle of 200-600 feet of steel cable. There is a weight attached that is in the middle of 6-12 pounds. Additionally there is a quick-release line gripper, just like a clothespin.

The Fishing lines from your rods are attached to the quick-release mechanisms. Then the whole thing is dropped down to the depth you want. The bait is far enough from the weight and line gripper not to spook the fish. If you get a bite, the line is released from the gripper, so it is just you and the fish!

Some downriggers have fish-attractant properties (either electrical, or a extra kind of paint), but not most of them.

Downriggers work great for deep trolling, and some even have an electronic crank that will bring everything up. If you need to get at deeper schools of fish, these are highly recommended.

Nail Polish Helps

Does your spoon, spinner, or plug get the paint chipped after only a few casts? Use clear fingernail polish to protect the paint and increase durability. Carry a bottle with you when you are Fishing, and give it a shot.

Ferrules

If there is dirt on your ferrule it can lead to rapid wear. Make a plug out of wood to help keep the female ferrule clean.

Is your ferrule stuck? Use "Liquid Wrench", which you can get at any auto-parts store. Just spray it around the male ferrule and let it drip down. In a few minutes you will be able to pull it apart.

Getting Out Line Tangles

Use a pair of large fabric needles to work out these tangles. They have a smooth finish which won't damage the line as you work the mess out. They are also handy to sew canvas tarp, leather, or rug strips.

Pocket Tackle box

Attach a cord to your pocket tackle box, so you don't worry about dropping it in the water or leaving it behind. Just drill an undersized hole near the back of the box and insert a small eye-screw. A know will stop the cord from slipping through the eye. Just put a clip on the other end so that you can fetch the rope to a belt loop or buttonhole.

Avoiding Line Twist

Line twist is the foremost cause of fouled fishing. To check for it, pull off enough line to span your outstretched hands - about 6 feet. Next, bring your hands together in front of you, causing the line to drop into a loop. If the loop wraps around itself, you have line twist. remove it by trolling about 100 feet of line behind a boat. Next setup a ball-bearing swivel to prevent future line twist.

Knots Are Key

One of the most foremost things in losing or landing a hooked fish is your knot. Be sure the knot you are tying is strong and properly tied.

To make sure, tie your usual knot and test it against other knots. A good test is to take two four-inch sections of a broom deal with with the screw eye in the town of each. Tie a knot in each screw eye and pull steadily until you see which knot survives. Do it 10 times to get an average. The knot that holds best should be your new knot.

Anchor Pulley, Keep it Quiet

If you use an anchor pulley, you risk spooking the fish as most pulleys ultimately start to squeak. Try this alternative to a pulley:

Get a large U-bolt, a few nuts and washers, and an old-style glass or ceramics fencepost insulator.

Slip the insulator on a U-bolt, drill a couple of holes to accommodate the bolt, and tighten it to the mounting surface. The anchor rope will slide freely in the insulator's groove, and the anchor lowers and raises as readily as with a pulley, especially once the rope is wet.

Casting Poppers

Casting poppers with a fly rod is awkward. To get great distance bore a slightly undersized small hole in the popper, just big enough to fit a Bb in. It should fit snugly and will give you an additional one 30 feet of casting distance at least.

Cheap and easy depth finder

Using two felt-tipped markers (red and black) mark an anchor rope as follows: A particular red mark around the rope at five feet, a red and black mark at 10 feet, a particular red mark at 15 feet, two black marks at 20 feet, a particular red and two black marks at 25 feet and three black marks at 30. Use the color code red for every five feet and multiples of black for 10 feet.

Increases the efficiency of your minnow scoop by putting a bend in it. Just turn the wire deal with down 90 degrees, then push the net back on line. The forward-positioned net makes it much easier to trap a baitfish against the inside of an open-top bucket.

A Cheap Anchor For A Fishing Boat

For keeping a good-sized boat over a rocky bottom, use a large swivel snap to fasten four fee of heavy chain to a proper mushroom anchor. You can get one from a junkyard. The chain boosts the anchor's weight and keeping power, provides favorable handles for lowering and raising, and gives extra leverage when an anchor jams in rocks or snags. When he brings it aboard, he coils the heavy chain on a bed of old foam-rubber pads so it doesn't rattle around or dent his boat. In calm water, he plainly unsnaps the chain and uses the mushroom anchor by itself.

Rods for Inland and Offshore Fishing

When first embarking as an amateur angler, Fishing stores sell such a wide range of Fishing tackle, that it is easy to become overwhelmed. When in this position, the first thing to do is to seek the expertise of a seasoned angler. Here, we have some helpful tips on how to choose Fishing rods, to help you on your way to angling greatness.

The first thing is to conclude the kind of fishing you want to undertake. Fishing can broadly be categorised as inland and off shore fishing - we will deal with each in turn.

Shimano Fishing

Inland
Anglers ordinarily fish inland at freshwater streams and lakes, in freshwater fish are smaller, the water is shallower and lighter. This makes a variation to the type of fishing rod that anglers should use. Generally, fishing rods need to be more lightweight than for saltwater, as bait and lure need to be neutrally buoyant and not sink as they would were the weights too heavy. The only exception to this rule is when lowest fishing, in which case, the angler wants the bait to reach the lowest - and depending on the aggregate of the water, currents, and wind factor, weight size will vary with lowest fishing, as will the size of the rod needed.

Different fishing rods used inland:

Casting rods
These are accepted rods and they make use of primary reels. Anglers must add bait or lures to the line, and can merge a float too.

Spinning rods
They are very similar to a casting rod, but make use of a distinct style of reel, one that - as the name implies - spins. When using spinning rods, the bait does not need to be as heavy as with a casting rod. They are very useful for beginner anglers as they are safer to use and the angler needs less expertise to operate them.

Fly-Fishing
Fly-fishing is a complex form of angling; beginners should avoid this until they have built up some palpate in fishing. Fly fishing is very favorite and is practiced both in saltwater and in fresh water environments.

Different fishing rods used in offshore fishing:

Trolling rods
Manufacturers designed these rods for use when fishing from a intelligent platform, such as a boat. They can sport whether a accepted reel, or a spinning reel, depending on the type of fish the angler wishes to catch. As an item of fishing tackle, they are among the most expensive; a decent trolling rod will set you back over £800, so perhaps not for beginners who are yet to know if they enjoy angling as a hobby.

Bottom rods
These rods are for much heavier types of fish; as such, they need to be incredibly sturdy. They are often encumbering and difficult to master; again, these rods are for anglers with a petite more experience.

What Types of Fishing Reels Are There?

Like Fishing Rods, your range of Fishing reels is simply huge. You can buy reels for Fishing in freshwater, reels for Fishing off boats, reels for fishing off beaches, Alvey fishing reels, electronic fishing reels and everything in between. Don't be too involved or overwhelmed by this though; it's not hard to get the right reel for what you want. A lot of reels can be interchanged and used for a range of dissimilar types of fishing.

Overhead reels are primarily used on boats when you are trawling or bottom fishing. They are not very easy to cast with, and you often end up with tangles if you try to do it! Spinning reels can be used for everything, together with fly fishing, fresh water fishing, beach fishing and off the rocks or a boat. I prefer these as they can be used in every situation, and you can get transfer spools that you switch nearby depending on the size of fish that you are going for. In saying this, nothing beats a good overhead for trawling!

Shimano Fishing

Reels are made by a number of dissimilar manufacturers, and sticking to the larger ones will regularly certify that you get a good potential rod. However, you can absolutely buy a few cheap rods if that is what you want to do. I have bought a lot of gear off eBay for a tenth of the price you pay in any place else and it's lasted me fine. When picking your reel, ensure that the line that you want to use is going to fit on the reel, and that the strengths match each other (there is no point having a reel that's rated at 8 pounds and running 50 pound braid!).

Bait Fishing - Crappie Fishing in the Fall and Winter Details Here

Bait Fishing for crappie in the fall can sometimes be very confusing. As the water starts to cool, the crappies general feeding and living patterns are unpredictable. Patterns you were anticipating and using in the late summer months may not work in the fall. The bait fish have stopped spawning so there is more competition for the remaining bait fish. The fact can undoubtedly work to your advantage, there are a few facts about bait Fishing for crappie in the fall that you need to study on first.

It is true that the bait fish will be larger and you would think that you would need increase your crappie jig size in this fishing situation to match the size of the crappie's food source and in many occasions you would be right. But what you need to understand in the late fall as the water climatic characteristic continues to drop, that the crappie's metabolism will drop. And the crappie will not chase your crappie jigs unless you use a very slow bait fishing presentation.

Shimano Fishing

Now I am going to tell you something that goes against your logic and what you would usually do when the food source for the crappie is at a larger size. In the later fall and winter you can use smaller jig sizes or use some method to slow way down your larger crappie jigs. The think many crappie anglers use a smaller bait fishing presentation such as small jigs is because they float downward straight through the water at much slower pace and perfect for the slow and sluggish crappie in the late fall and winter months.

Ok I Mentioned above briefly that you can still use larger crappie jigs as your bait fishing method but they need to worked in the water very slowly. If you are going to fish for crappie with a larger crappie jig then you need to use a heavier line because heavy line sinks much slower in the water. Also you a slip bobber to fish in deeper water. Also, When you catch your first crappie clean the fish and see what the crappie has been eating so you can get a good idea of what the size of the bait fish are they are eating. Well folks that concludes my description about bait fishing for crappie in the fall and winter I sincerely hope the information here has been helpful, Have A Nice Day!

Cleaning Fishing Reels Using Ultrasonic Cleaners

Proper maintenance, including quarterly disassembly and cleaning, is vital for the execution of your Fishing reels. One of the most productive ways to clean Fishing reels from caked grease, algae, dirt and debris of all kinds is to use ultrasonic cleaning equipment. This record explains what to look for in an ultrasonic cleaner to be used for the cleaning of fishing reels, and what you need to do to optimize your cleaning results without risking damage to your gear.

Fishing equipment is exposed to a range of substances such as lubricating grease and environments that can cause build-up of whole of dissimilar residues. Many fishing trips are done in the ocean which exposes the gear to seawater. Seawater contains a whole of dissimilar salts in dissimilar concentrations, all of which can cause clogging or jamming of the equipment. Additionally, some of the minerals in seawater are quite corrosive and can not only eat into the parts, but also cause further clogging and jamming due to rust build-up and deposition of other products of corrosion. Fresh water can also pose a threat to the life of your fishing gear, as it commonly contains more algae and bacteria than seawater. Sand, silt, algae, fish scales, and bacteria can leave further residues in the sensitive thoughprovoking parts.

Shimano Fishing

Ultrasonic cleaners produce itsybitsy bubbles that implode forcefully in a cleaning solution. The process, called cavitation, blasts dirt, grease, rust, and grime away from any kind of hard surface. Since the liquid allows cavitation to occur in any place in the tank the cleaning process is more productive and diplomatic to the equipment than most other cleaning processes. It has the further advantage of reaching inside surfaces and crevices inaccessible by cleaning brushes.

Because there's a wide range of makes, models, sizes, power, and prices of ultrasonic cleaners, it is not easy to choose one that is ideally excellent to clean fishing reels. The price is of procedure a concern. The price of an ultrasonic cleaner basically depends on the ultrasonic power and availability of industrialized features such as variable power and frequency, as well as the comprehensive ability of the equipment.

Most ultrasonic cleaning units are built with piezoelectric ultrasonic transducers. Piezoelectric transducers are very productive in converting the electrical energy from the generator into ultrasonic energy in the cleaning bath. However, it is very leading to know the productive ultrasonic power in the tank, as many low cost units are underpowered.

Some units meant for cleaning jewelry and similar items are constructed for short run times. This might not only mean that the unit needs to be turned on some times to get a much more dirty fishing reel clean, but it can also mean that the unit is not able to withstand long execution times due to overheating, and will ultimately break down.

Crappie Fishing Tips - 3 Tips That Will Help anything Catch More Crappie

In this report I'm going to form 3 tips that will help anyone catch more crappie on their next crappie Fishing excursion. I have been using these crappie Fishing tips with great success for more than 20 years and know that will work just as well for you. Whether or not these three crappie Fishing tips are the top 3 is up for debate, but they are defiantly in the top 10.

The first thing to keep in mind with regards to crappie Fishing is the fact that these fish of course love minnows. Minnows are probably the most effective bait to use when fishing for crappie. Small jigs are also effective crappie baits, and what is it that jigs imitate? Yep, minnows. anyone bait you use for these fish, make sure that it at least imitates a minnow. Minnows and Crappie go together like peas and carrots.

Shimano Fishing

Shall we get down to the tips so that you can start catching more crappie? Sound like a plan to me.

Use Slip Bobbers - for those of you who don't know what a slip bobber is, it is a bobber that "slips" along your fishing line and is stopped using a "bobber stop". Using a "bobber stop" allows you to of course adjust the depth of your bait (or jig) below the bobber. Slip bobbers are highly useful when fishing Whether from the shore, or when fishing in deeper water. Using slip bobbers effectively will dramatically growth your crappie fishing success. Use Gang Hooks - gang hooks are a pair of small hooks tied back to back, which are attached to your line by using a small barrel swivel. The swivel prevents the line from twisting when using live minnows as Crappie bait. When minnows swim around under your bobber, they can twist the heck out of your line when a swivel isn't present. These hooks also allow you to hook the minnow straight through the lips, which means that they will live much longer. Use mom Nature To Your benefit - As a crappie angler you want to be on the water fishing when the crappie are the most active, and this is considered by using mom Nature to your advantage. More specifically the weather & moon These two military of mom Nature have an astonishing impact on the behavior of fish (which obviously includes crappie) and the better you understand this phenomenon the more crappie you will catch, it's as uncomplicated as that. Start using mom Nature to your benefit sooner, rather than later.

As I said earlier, these aren't the only 3 crappie fishing tips on the planet, they are however three of the most effective. Add one or all of these crappie fishing tips to your repertoire and you'll start bringing home more of our tasty diminutive friends.

tasteless Fishing Tackle Review: The Shimano Catana 2500 Ra Reel

If you're a base fisherman, then you know the challenge of stalking a range of fish species. When you're out for barbel, bream, dace, perch, pike, grayling and others, your base Fishing tackle should be as versatile as possible. As a base angler, you often need to adapt swiftly to a range of Fishing venues, baits and tactics. Personally, I'm fond of pike because they put up a frightful fight and gift quite a challenge. Regardless of what base species you may be partial to, you're going to need tackle that's both durable and effective. Since I can't afford top-of-the-line Fishing gear, I'm always on the surveillance for capability tackle that's reasonably priced. I wanted to share my thoughts on a great, budget-priced reel from Shimano: the Cantana 2500 Ra.

Key Features of the Shimano Catana 2500 Ra base Fishing Reel

Shimano Fishing

This reel is ambidextrous and quite light in weight, a highlight that's prominent to me during extended fishing sessions. It has 2 stainless steel ball bearings for smooth doing and will hold 200 yards of 6 pound test line. The gear ratio is 5.2:1, and the gearing is cold forged. Cold forging is a process in which a metal, often aluminium, is forced into a die, where it deforms in a controlled way and takes the shape of the die. In the case of cold forged aluminium, the metal also is subjected to a heat rehabilitation tempering process that strengthens it. The Catana 2500 Ra comes with a spare extra-light graphite spool along with the accepted aluminium spool. Despite its exceptionally low price of about £24.99, the reel features 3D Cad-Cam designed gearing for correct doing and exceptional smoothness.

More About the Catana 2500 Ra Reel

Another high-end highlight found on this affordable reel is the progressive multi-disk rear drag principles that has a surprisingly wide range of adjustments. This makes the reel accepted for all things from heavy spinning to light match fishing. The Dyna-Balance®feature can be concept of as similar to balancing an automobile tyre. This technique eliminates rotor wobble during the retrieve. The Varispeed®oscillation highlight ensures correct line lay. Finally, the 2500 Ra's Super Stopper Ii®facilitates instant hook setting. For the price, this reel is loaded with features usually found on more costly models. One of my angling friends also has this reel. When I asked his opinion, here's what he said: "I can use these for light float, feeder/ledger and spinning. As an all-rounder, they are not too big and not too small. The reel looks and feels well made, A cut above the 'budget' reels without getting silly on price."

Final Thoughts on the Shimano Catana 2500 Ra base Fishing Reel

This reel was a great expanding to my range of base fishing tackle. I find myself reaching for it more often than some of my other, more costly reels. I'm happy to rate it at 4.5 out of a possible 5 stars.
